Have you ever wondered…..?

About the meaning of life, the stars, the universe, the moon and all critters large and small?

About love, grace, gratitude, deep friendship and why this marvelous world exists?

I do and I wonder all the time. Wondering is a key component in my artistic mind. I wonder endlessly about how to create the beauty that fills my life and my heart and how to express that beauty and joy into physical artistic forms.  Below are a series of photos of my latest piece, The Roadrunner. He was a commission from Mike Shields and Opal Winebrenner of Helena Mt.  As I worked to create this most interesting of birds I realized how much I can’t wait to see the end result but was also aware of all the steps that I took to get to the end. I thought it would be fun to show you where my wondering has lead me in the process of creating these paper clay creatures.

Aluminum foil to form the body. Tape to wrap the foil in. Cardboard for wings and beak.

Paper Clay for putting over the form of the body wings and beak.

Body wrapped in masking tape. Cardboard for head feathers.

Once the paper clay has dried for 2 days the first layers of paint are applied.

More layers of paint on the wings.

Heres looking at you. ( smile)

I’m still wondering.

The moon has always been a focal point of wonder for me. I’m glad this childhood practice of gazing to the heavens has been a life long experience. The paintings below were painted this past week as the lunar eclipse took place on July 27. I hope they revel some of the beauty and wonder I experience when I gaze up to the heavens.
